Doors

LatviešuРусский

Doors are a structure built into an opening in a wall, isolating a room from the street or separate rooms from each other.

Doors construction

The door сonstruction, or the Door set, usually consists of a Door frame, which is attached directly to the opening and a Door-panel, fixed to the frame with hinges, which allows you to open and close the door. Also, in most cases, the door is equipped with a lock with a handle.

Right or left door

According to the direction of opening, doors are divided into right-handed and left-handed. If, when opening the door towards you, the hinges are on the right, then it is a right-handed door, if the hinges are on the left, then it is a left-handed door.

In addition to the classic construction, there are also:

  • Double-leaf – with two door-panels, each of which is hung on its own side of the doorway. The door-panels can open simultaneously or one can be fixed in the closed position. They are installed in openings wider than 1.2 meters. Depending on the width of the doorway and its purpose, the door-panels can be either the same or different in width.
  • Sliding – the door-panel slides to the side – onto the wall or into a special niche. If there are two door-panels, they can slide apart in different directions or sliding past each other. The construction consists of two rails – at the top and bottom, along which the doors move. There is also an option where the door-panel moves on special rollers along a guide only at the top.
  • Folding – the door-panel consists of two or more parts that are connected to each other by hinges and, when opened, fold like a book or accordion.
  • Pendulum – the door-panels can open in both directions (of 180 degrees), thanks to the use of special hinges. After opening, they automatically return to their original state – closed.
  • Revolving – a construction of several door panels hang on a central shaft and rotates along a vertical axis. Most often used in public places and installed within a cylindrical enclosure.

Types of doors

Depending on the purpose, functions performed, installation location, etc., doors can be of different shapes, made of different materials, with different types of finishing.
